Lex and I Bought Our First House

I honestly didn’t think we’d buy a house ever. Or at the very least anytime soon. I have never been one to dream about a future house outside of having a place to put string lights and hang up our art. I have loved living in various apartments the last 9 years! And thought that a condo would probably be our next step. Trying to find that while still living in Villa Park proved difficult. We wanted to move into something that was ready to go, something that didn’t require a lot of work. There weren’t a lot of condo options out by us and the town homes seemed to be a huge project or very expensive. So we decided to go on some house tours just to see. And we found several pretty quickly we liked and one we really loved.

Our home was actually the third house we looked at in person. It was the first house we looked at one Saturday in January so the rest of the houses did not compare. I am glad we had a few more to look at just to see but we knew by the time we left the tour that day we would be putting an offer in on the house.

Its a smaller split level home but it is the perfect size for us. It has a small yard with a bigger patio space so we can hang out in the summer with friends and even have some stay the night if needed. There is room for an office and a “library” as we are calling it. Plus 2 bathrooms which is AMAZING. While I didn’t think this would ever make sense for us I am excited. I think the fact that it was recently completely renovated and was the perfect size for what we wanted made this an easy decision. We don’t have to give up traveling or doing the things we love to buy this house but we have way more bang for our buck here than in an apartment! Plus the natural light has been a photographer’s dream!

A huge thank you to our families over the last several weeks who have helped with home inspections and moving or trips to IKEA. The move-in process for us was much smoother than I could have imagine and luckily we were able to get pretty much everything accomplished within a few days.

So enjoy a little glimpse into our new home and the last apartment we lived in!

I wrote this blog post several weeks ago and wanted to add in that while everything is feeling very scary I am grateful to have a beautiful and cozy home that I get to spend extra quality time with Lex in as we socially distance ourselves. Stay safe out there friends <3

As soon as we decided to start packing up the apartment I realized we really didn’t take many photos inside our apartment. We had more photos of how we set up our last place than this one. One of my goals for this home is to make sure we take more photos of the house. I guess while we loved living in Ovaltine we didn’t really get to do much here. The one bedroom with only one couch and no dining table made it difficult for people to come over. However, it was cozy and perfect for just the two of us.
