Mackenzie Maeder Chicago Photographer Favorite Portraits March 2020

With everything that is going on right now I wanted to find a way to still connect with all of you over the next few weeks while we are social distancing. I have a lot of blog post ideas I had been wanting to work on anyway so you will still see posts full of tips/tricks/resources. But I also wanted to pepper in some more light hearted ones that are just for some fun scrolling. I will be breaking up my business and personal work into categories and sharing posts like Favorite Wedding Photos, Favorite Event Photos, Favorite Travel Photos, etc.

So first up is some of my favorite portraits! These are definitely not all of them because I have taken quite a few photos in my time and it is impossible to go through every shoot or include every photo. But I feel lucky that I got to do things like explore a marsh while Amy trashed her wedding dress, and create content for Nina’s Thirty One business, and help Skyler celebrate her senior year of high school (just to name a few).

Want to take some self portraits at home during this time?

My favorite thing to do when messing around with portraits is find a fun patch of light to work in. It literally can be just a sliver on a wall and you can make some incredible work. I also love shooting THROUGH things. I have used a prism for a lot of the shots below, as well as a belt and other items of clothing. Anything with a little sparking or color can add something fun to your photo. You can even do this on your phone!
